Snapchat Adds AR Effects to Celebrate the Minecraft Movie

I’m pretty skeptical about the new Minecraft movie, and the direction they’ve taken with both the story and the special effects.

But it could be a hit, and with Minecraft already being a key driver of engagement on social apps, in various forms, it could also provide tie-in marketing opportunities that could help boost your branding.

Which is why this might be relevant.

These are the latest Snapchat AR filters for the Minecraft movie, which will give users a range of ways to interact with Minecraft-style content and games.

Snapchat has added four different types of AR Lenses to coincide with the movie’s launch:

All of these filters will be available via the Minecraft Movie profile in the app, and within the Lens carousel.

On Saturday, March 22nd, Warner Bros. will be running a First Lens Unlimited Takeover for the 3D Body Tracking Lens, and the week of March 24th, the entire Lens Collection will have a featured Takeover in Lens Explorer on Snapchat.”

So you’ll have plenty of opportunity to tap into the surrounding excitement, and engage with Minecraft effects, taking you back into those never-ending worlds of pixelated adventure.

Which is what Minecraft is, and always has been, which is why many people are concerned about the direction of the movie. But again, maybe it will be a winner, which could remind everyone of why they love the game so much.

And there are many Minecraft fans online. In May last year, YouTube launched its own Minecraft effects for Shorts, in order to celebrate the Minecraft community in its app.

That saw a heap of usage and engagement, and we may well see the same on Snap, as the hype around the movie ramps up.

Or not.
