YouTube Announces Expansion of Auto-Dubbing to More Creators and Languages

YouTube has provided more info on its coming expansion of auto-dubbing, which will enable creators to activate audio translations of their content, so they can reach a wider audience.

Announced as part of its “Made on YouTube” event this week, which primarily focused on a range of new AI expansions, YouTube’s also bringing its auto-dubbing feature to more markets and languages later this year.

As per YouTube:

“In the coming months we'll be expanding our AI powered dubbing tool, formerly known as “Aloud”, to hundreds of thousands of creators. Additionally, up until now, creators who had beta access were only able to dub English videos into Spanish and Portuguese, but coming soon we're adding more languages, like French and Italian. Once creators have access, their videos will be automatically dubbed upon upload, with the ability to opt out if they so choose.”

Aloud was originally announced back in 2022, as part of an expanded Google translation experiment.

The system is complex, as it involved not only text, but automated audio translation as well, which is likely why Google’s taken its time with each stage of expansion. But now, Google’s confident that it can facilitate more translations through dubbing, which will enable more creators to expand their audience reach.

It could be a good way to build global connections, or enhance appeal in local markets among different communities. Essentially, that could open up whole new audience segments, which could be a great way to build your YouTube presence.

YouTube says that it’s expanding the offering over the coming months.
