Foster + Partners, the architects behind Apple Park, have unveiled a proposed design for a new national memorial to Queen Elizabeth II. The memorial is set to be located in St James’s Park, near Buckingham Palace in central London.
With a provisional budget of up to £46 million, the project aims to create a lasting tribute to the UK’s longest-reigning monarch, who passed away in 2022.
The proposal is a collaboration between Foster + Partners, artist Yinka Shonibare, and landscape architecture firm Michel Desvigne Paysagiste. Their design includes a Commonwealth Garden and a wind sculpture, intended to serve as spaces for “reflection and shared experience.”
In addition, a new figurative sculpture of Queen Elizabeth II will be commissioned as part of the memorial.
A dedicated committee will select the final concept and oversee its development. The completed memorial is expected to be unveiled in 2026, marking what would have been Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday year.
