macOS Sequoia set for September launch, coordinated with iOS 18, report claims

Apple is preparing to release macOS Sequoia, the latest version of its Mac operating system, in mid-September, according to MacRumors who cite sources familiar with the matter. This release will coincide with the launch of iOS 18, marking a departure from the company’s recent practice of launching macOS updates in varying months such as September, October, or November.

The decision to launch macOS Sequoia and iOS 18 simultaneously is aimed at ensuring that cross-platform features, such as the new iPhone Mirroring, are fully operational. iPhone Mirroring will allow users to control their iPhones running iOS 18 from a Mac running macOS Sequoia, enhancing the integration between Apple’s desktop and mobile ecosystems.

macOS Sequoia will introduce several new features, including updated window tiling capabilities, a dedicated Passwords app, and enhancements across Safari, Messages, Maps, Notes, and more. However, Apple Intelligence features will not be available at launch. These capabilities are expected to be introduced in subsequent updates, iOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, which are anticipated to roll out in October.

Apple is currently in the final stages of beta testing both macOS Sequoia and iOS 18 in preparation for its annual fall event, scheduled for September 9, with new iPhones potentially launching a week later on September 20. In this scenario, iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia could become available on September 18.
