LinkedIn Now Enable Users to Share MP4 Videos in DMs

Here’s a potentially handy update for LinkedIn DMs: You can now add MP4 videos as attachments in your LinkedIn messages.

LinkedIn added file attachments for DMs back in 2018, with users able to add PDFs, spreadsheets, Word DOCs and PowerPoint files.

It’s since expanded this to more file types, with virtually all forms of image and/or spreadsheet file now able to be shared in the app, while you can also capture and share direct video replies within your DM response options.

And now, you can also share videos, in MP4 format, though you can’t exceed 20MB for any file type.

So it’s not suitable for sharing long videos. In fact, you’re probably only going to be able to send through clips of a couple of minutes in length at this limit. But it could be another option to enhance your LinkedIn messages, with more options to distribute different file types in the app.

Which could also, of course, see LinkedIn spammers send you crappy welcome videos or random clips of them looking at your website. But outside of nefarious use cases, it may open the door for more video sharing, and with video content seeing a 36% increase in overall watch time in the app year-over-year, video is clearly driving more engagement and interest within LinkedIn’s ecosystem.

So if you want to engage TikTok generation staff, maybe this will be another option to consider, or maybe you could use it to provide examples to prospective business partners, or share how-to’s in short clips.

There’s a heap of options, and it’s another tool to consider in your broader LinkedIn communications process.

You can check out the full listing of shareable file formats for LinkedIn DMs here. Also note that you can post videos to the LinkedIn feed in various file formats.
