American Airlines is rolling out a redesigned version of its iPhone app in May. The refreshed app introduces support for iOS Live Activities, giving users real-time flight updates directly on their lock screens, as well as new Siri shortcuts for quick access to travel information.
Navigation throughout the app has been simplified to align with the look and feel of other commonly used mobile apps, making it easier for customers to get where they need to go within the platform. Users can also explore destinations served by American and learn more about the airline’s partners through an inspiration section.
Core functionality remains front and center, including the ability to check in, manage bags, select seats, and download mobile boarding passes compatible with Apple Wallet. Apple Watch support allows users to glance at flight details from their wrists, and a built-in chat function connects travelers with customer support.
The update also enhances day-of-travel capabilities. Live Activities offer real-time updates on boarding and departure times without needing to open the app, while Siri shortcuts streamline tasks like checking flight info. Customers can view airport maps, get turn-by-turn directions, check driving times, and even rebook flights during disruptions. The app also supports special service requests and shows security wait times at select airports, including DFW, LGA, JFK, PHX, and LHR.
Whether it’s watching free inflight entertainment or navigating through a busy terminal, the latest version of the American Airlines app is designed to empower travelers at every step of their journey.
