Apple has revealed that over the past five years, the App Store stopped more than $9 billion in fraudulent transactions—including over $2 billion in 2024 alone.

In its annual App Store fraud analysis report, the company noted the marketplace draws an average of over 813 million visitors per week. Last year, Apple terminated more than 146,000 developer accounts over fraud concerns and rejected 139,000 new enrollments—blocking bad actors before they could submit apps.

On the customer side, Apple rejected over 711 million account creations and deactivated nearly 129 million suspect accounts in 2024. It also detected and blocked over 10,000 illegitimate apps on pirate storefronts, ranging from malware and gambling titles to pornography and cracked versions of legitimate apps.

Over the past month alone, Apple stopped nearly 4.6 million attempts to install or launch apps distributed illicitly outside the App Store or approved third-party marketplaces.

“Protecting our users against fraud and security threats remains a top priority,” said an Apple spokesperson. “These figures underscore our ongoing commitment to keeping the App Store a safe, trusted environment for both customers and developers.”
