Apple has sold over three billion iPhones, says Tim Cook

by Wire Tech

Apple CEO Tim Cook has announced that the company has officially surpassed three billion iPhones sold since the device’s debut in 2007.

The last time Apple publicly shared iPhone sales figures was in 2016, when it reported one billion units sold. While the company never disclosed when it crossed the two billion mark, analysts cited by 9to5Mac estimate that milestone was likely reached around September 2021.

Cook shared the latest sales milestone during Apple’s Q3 2025 earnings call, making the announcement with little fanfare. “We also recently marked a significant milestone. We shipped the 3 billionth iPhone since its launch in 2007,” he said during his prepared remarks.

The news coincides with Apple’s financial results for the fiscal third quarter of 2025, in which it reported $94.0 billion in revenue — a 10% increase year over year — and a record-breaking quarter for its Services division.

Cook also noted that the iPhone 16 lineup is seeing stronger demand than its predecessor. Sales of the iPhone 16 have grown by “strong double digits” compared to the iPhone 15 series, he said.
