Apple has rolled out iOS 18.4, introducing several new features, including Priority Notifications that leverage Apple Intelligence to display the most relevant alerts on the iPhone’s lock screen, an updated Action Button option, Control Center enhancements, new emoji characters, and more.
Priority Notifications and Visual Intelligence Expansion
Available now, iOS 18.4 brings Apple’s Visual Intelligence feature to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This feature allows users to identify objects, landmarks, plants, animals, and even extract text for quick actions or translation. For example, by simply pointing the camera at a sign in a foreign language, iPhone users can instantly translate the text. Scanning a document enables easy extraction of phone numbers, email addresses, or dates for direct interaction.
Visual Intelligence also integrates with native Apple apps, enriching real-world experiences. Users can pull up restaurant information in Maps by pointing their iPhone at a location, add events from posters directly to their calendar, or identify dog breeds with just a camera scan.
New Emojis and Enhanced Features
iOS 18.4 introduces a range of new emoji characters, including bags under eyes, a fingerprint, a leafless tree, a root vegetable, a harp, a shovel, and a splatter, allowing users to better express themselves in messaging.
Apple News Food Section and Ambient Music
The update also adds a new Food section for Apple News+ subscribers, featuring recipes, restaurant stories, healthy eating tips, and kitchen essentials. Meanwhile, the Control Center gets a new Ambient Music option, offering four distinct sound categories—Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing—to enhance the user experience.
Additional Updates
Two new Australian voices for Siri are now available, and the Passwords app has been upgraded with a countdown circle for two-factor authentication codes, helping users keep track of when new codes will be generated.

AirPods Max Update
iOS 18.4 also brings an exciting update for AirPods Max, enabling support for lossless and ultra-low latency audio, with the ability to play 24-bit/48 kHz lossless audio for a richer listening experience.
