iOS 17.1 to show bank balances in the Wallet app, available in the UK only

by Wire Tech

Apple has made its first iOS 17.1 developer beta available for testing, with the update revealing a new feature coming to the Wallet app for users in the UK which will allow customers banking with select banks to show their bank balance within the Wallet app on iPhone.

Using the UK’s Open Banking API, the Wallet app will add the ability to display a user’s bank balance in the app on iPhone for those banking with Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, RBS, Monzo, and Starling.

With the update, users will see account balances, payments, purchases, and deposits within the Wallet app, similar to what they would see in their bank’s mobile app.

The new feature will be available only in the UK. It is unclear if the feature will expand to new countries and regions in the future.
