As we approach mid-July with no special announcements from Apple expected until the fall, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has provided insight into when the iPhone 17 series might be unveiled.
According to Gurman, Apple is likely to follow its tradition of scheduling iPhone unveilings for the week after Labor Day in the United States. Based on previous patterns, MacRumors has speculated that the iPhone 17 could be announced on either September 9 or 10, with these dates being the most plausible.
MacRumors further explains that Apple typically avoids holding major product announcements on Fridays, which rules out September 12. The company has also shied away from hosting events on September 11 in recent years. As a result, the most likely dates for the event would be Monday, September 9, or Tuesday, September 10.
Gurman concurs, stating that Tuesday, September 9, or Wednesday, September 10, is the most likely option.
As for the iPhone 17 itself, it is expected to feature a 6.1-inch OLED ProMotion display with a 120Hz refresh rate, the new A19 chip, 12GB of RAM, and upgraded cameras, including a 48MP rear lens and a 24MP front-facing camera. The lineup will also introduce the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, which will be just 5.5mm thick and built with a titanium-aluminum alloy frame. It will reportedly sport a 6.6-inch OLED ProMotion display and share similar camera specs with the base model.
The flagship iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to come in both 6.6-inch and 6.9-inch variants, featuring Liquid Retina XDR displays, the new A19 Pro chip, and a triple 48MP camera system. This system will include an ultra-wide lens and a periscope telephoto lens, supporting 8K video recording and enhanced thermal management.
