Next-gen AirTag rumored to launch in September

by Wire Tech

Apple’s second-generation AirTag is rumored to debut in September, with reliable sources suggesting it will be unveiled alongside the iPhone 17 series, according to a report from 9to5Mac.

The report also notes that Apple has already built compatibility for the new AirTag into iOS 18.6, signaling that the tracker’s release is approaching.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has previously reported that the next-generation AirTag will feature a significantly improved Ultra Wideband chip, offering up to three times the tracking range of the current model. This upgrade is expected to expand Precision Finding capabilities from the current 10–30 meters to potentially 90 meters, making it easier to locate lost items over longer distances with greater accuracy.

Design-wise, the updated AirTag is expected to retain its familiar compact, button-style form factor and continue using a replaceable CR2032 battery. However, Apple is rumored to upgrade the internal speaker, making the device louder and easier to hear, especially in noisy environments.
