Apple Park architects unveil design for 100,000-capacity stadium for Manchester United

Apple Park architectural firm, Foster + Partners, is bringing its design expertise to a new project: a 100,000-capacity soccer stadium for Manchester United, touted to be the ‘world’s greatest football stadium’ upon completion within five years.

Foster + Partners, the firm behind Apple Park — Apple’s, spaceship-like campus in Cupertino, California — has worked closely with Apple for years.

The stadium, estimated to cost £2 billion, will draw inspiration from the firm’s legacy of innovation. Norman Foster, the 89-year-old Manchester-born founder of Foster + Partners, explained the vision: ‘It starts with the idea of making something which is so intense it brings you close to the pitch. Acoustically it cultivates the roar.’

Much like Apple’s commitment to sustainability, the stadium will feature a massive canopy that generates solar power and collects rainwater, creating one of the world’s largest public spaces. This echoes Apple’s own environmental priorities, seen in the carbon-neutral Apple Park and recent projects like the Apple Park Observatory, a subterranean venue blending technology and nature.

Apple and Foster + Partners’ collaborations include Apple Fifth Avenue’s iconic glass cube entrance and numerous flagship stores worldwide.
